Rice berry is new kind of rice that bred from 3 different rice that are Thai hom mali rice , Hom nin rice and Khao dawk mali 105, bring all good things in 3 different rice together into one rice to become Rice berry. Rice berry has appearance of dark purple, long grain and soothing aroma.
After cooking this rice will have smooth texture with smell of fragrant aroma similar to Jasmine rice but a bit less edging, apart from their aroma, Rice berry has excellent taste and more flavor than plain white rice, this make them suitable more people who looking for more taste than normal white rice.
Not only the taste are terrific but nutrition substance in Rice berry are incredibly high and very healthy. They are contains Antioxidants, Beta carotene, Gamma Oryzanal, High vitamin E, Tannin, Zinc and high folate. All of these substances will help prevent or reduce risk of cancer, heart attack and diabetes.
Rice berry is a registered rice variety from Thailand, a cross-breed of Jao Hom Nin (JHN), a local non-glutinous purple rice and Khoa Dawk Mali 105 (hom Mali rice).
The variety was created by the Rice Science Center, Kasetsart University, Thailand after four years of research for nutritional properties, anthocyanin stability, and physical and cooking properties.
The outcome is a deep purple whole grain rice with softness and a palatable aftertaste. Riceberry has been a popular brown rice substitute due to its health promoting properties. Inducing people to consume more whole grain rice varieties could help ameliorate food-related chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, high blood cholesterol, obesity, and cancers.
